Sam and Scott from Frampton Consultants went to the wall on a hot and sticky day, ripping out mortar, plaster, board, battens and bitumen to reveal the original rear wall of 2 Hillside.
The cottages were built into the hillside rising up to Rodborough Common. The rear wall is probably more than 250 years old, and Scott estimates it is some two feet thick. From bottom of the house to the roof gables, and the full width of the former two weaver cottages joined to make up 2 Hillside, the wall sits inside the hill.
Over the next couple of weeks Scott and Sam and other Frampton workers will stretch a single waterproof-breathable membrane over the the wall, the full height and width of the house.
